THE EVERGREEN PAVILION

PUBLIC REST SPACE, 2021, Grand River Trail

The Evergreen Pavilion is located on the Grand River Multi-Use Trail where an intersection of another trail cuts across near some ruins of an old colonizers building. The Evergreen pavilion allows the users of both trails a place to rest and get away from any wind or rain. The pavilion is made using cut logs that have been steam bent into a shape that forms a nest of sorts. The Evergreen is designed to almost fully decompose when its lifespan as a building has come to an end, showing a great appreciation for mother nature, and setting an example for the users of the trail. Taking some inspiration from the indigenous longhouse with the use of wood and the position of its placement up the hill from the ruins it symbolizes a greater meaning and honors the land that was promised to the Six Nations but was taken from the sides of the Grand River’s Haldimand Tract.
