APERTIX CLAY WALL MODULES

3D Printed Clay Wall, 2025

In collaboration with: Arik Abraham & Tina Mousavi Azad

Focusing on the interest of camera apertures and their ability to control light diffusion, Apertix is comprised of six apertures ranging from mostly closed to fully open. These apertures are arranged in a pattern that gradually flows from open to closed, changing the light quality across the wall. The wall was modelled in Rhino, sliced in Cura, and printed in clay using the Scara Potterbot. The success of the printed pieces is determined by the consistency of the clay, nozzle size, and setup layer heights. By using clay 3D printing, the wall is able to have each piece be fully unique and customized. The six aperture sizes also determine the shape of the supporting middle piece and the back supporting piece. This means every part of the wall is fully unique.
